Perceptions of Beauty – Lithographic Print Series

skull womans face lithographic print series sugar skull painted

Hey guys sorry I haven’t posted in awhile, I have just been busy with school!

Anyways, today I would like to share one of my school projects this term, a lithographic mono-print series of a drawing I did for my print-making class.  The one on the top left is the original, then I hand painted on each one using acrylic paint to achieve a different effect using colour.

The drawing was inspired by a magazine fashion ad.  It is of a woman with half of her face as a skull.  I was trying to make a statement about beauty and death, corruption and decay.  Also the things we do to ourselves to be beautiful including starving ourselves to death.

For a couple of the coloured versions I pained the skull part in sugar skull or Dia de los Muertos makeup style, and for the others I just experimented with what I thought might look cool!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my latest art work.

If you would like to see more please check out my portfolio on Society6!

Cheers,

~Julie
